    Don't worry about buking up.

Many women worry about strength training because they think it will cause them to bulk up. Please don't let this fear stop you from training. You will gain strength and tone in your muscles without gaining bulk.

I do worry about developing grotesque muscles if I lift weights but it hasn't happened yet. I feel much stronger but I don't look like Sylvester Stallone just yet! I actually see a lot of women lifting a lot more weight than I can and they are very lean and don't look muscular at all.

It also depends on the kind of exercises you do. If you lift a tone, you'll get bulk. If you do strength training yoga, you'll get tone.

I have to admit that weight-lifting for women has been one of the things that men seem to insult the most. I remember seeing a website where they showed off 'buff' women that had larger muscles than their heads. What a way to scare off others! Like ToughChick said, just watch what exercises you do.

I think a lot of women seriously do worry about lifting weights because of how it will make them look. If weight-training is done in moderation, it actually tones the muscles very nicely!

It's a silly little impression that we have in our society that women don't look "right" if they have muscles. It's physically impossible for females to turn into the Hulk unless they achieve bodybuilder status, so don't abandon the benefits of some light lifting just yet!

It is silly to worry about such things. If you see your muscles developing more than you are comfortable with, you simply stop lifting so much and find other ways to exercise.

I think a little muscle looks good on women. They should remember that when they do strength training, it could help them save their lives and maybe, even others. Women should look beyond the change in their bodies, as to the change that they would gain mentally and emotionally with strength training.

I absolutely worry about lifting weights as a woman. I have started doing strength training yoga, rather than using weights. I'd like to get a few small weights to add some endurance. How do you prevent bulking up?
