I have mace on my key chain and I'm a guy! My wife carries it too. She walks with it her hand and her finger on the button. It just really makes sense. I'm sure if someone saw you had the mace, they'd just walk on by and go to the next person rather than be sprayed by it.

I think the idea of carrying a can of perfume is great. We can't use mace anymore because it is illegal. Perfume sprayed in the eyes will definitely give you that extra time you need to run away. It will also deter a lot of attackers.

Mace is actually pretty inexpensive and it's great to have on hand. But, like with any other weapon, remember that if someone gets it away from you, it can be used against you. You still have to be careful when you attempt to use it! Wait until it is safe to do so.
